Here are our recent photos of Blackbutt Square. We’ve spent the year restoring the gardens and helping the magnificent Blackbutt trees that are in the centre of each garden. The trees were getting stressed by children pulling bark off them and constantly walking on their roots. We’ve managed to stop the children doing this, but they are still walking on the gardens and trampling thre new plants. We’ll keep on working to help our precious part of Blue Gum High Forest.
Look in our Blackbutt Square page for more pictures of the work we are doing to restore these gardens and protect the old Blackbutts.
Here we are carrying buckets of soil. The soil is rich in native seeds. This soil was rescued from the building site of our new BER classrooms. The workmen kindly scraped off the top 10 centimetres of soil from the construction site and loaded it into a tip truck. It was quite exciting to watch! Then they dumped it near 5G so that we could then fill the Blackbutt Square gardens with this rich soil.
We were looking at the Archibald Prize entries and decided to create our own portrait of Mrs C. We did some warm up activities to get ready. After the activity we discussed how difficult it is to draw people and how clever the artists must be. We also learnt that to be a good artist we need to practise, practise, practise.
Here’s Yi’s portrait. She was focused and tried very hard. Well done Yi,
The artist Hundertwasser was the inspiration for these beautiful paintings by 3C.
Here’s Tessa’s outstanding artwork. She took her painting into the school environment and decided on the best place to photograph it. She chose to sit her painting on a rock. What a lovely composition! Ben chose to photograph his painting on an angle and in the grass. He loves creating artworks. Ben said that when he draws and paints, he loses all track of time! You can see more faces in the 3C Art Gallery.
